Military Stock Photo - Ordering Process

ORDERING LICENSES FOR STOCK PHOTOGRAPHY:

Images on this site are provided only by license, not sold, and for specific uses only. You are free to browse our site and view thumbnail sized images without registering. Pricing information and preview sized images are only available for registered users.

Our stock photography licensing fees are based upon industry standards, and similiar to major competiors such as Corbis or Getty. We only offer rights managed stock photography; we do not offer royalty free images.

Licensing fees for most standard license types - print, web, tradeshow, etc. - are available to view online. Simply chose the image(s) you are considering licensing, click to view the preview sized image and select your planned use, and a fee will be calulated for you. Licensing types not shown on the preview page should simply be selected as "Other" with details of how you wish to use the image. Our staff will respond shortly with the fees for this other use.

Once you've selected the image(s) you wish to license, you complete the web-based portion of the process by going to your "Cart" and selecting "Complete Order". Our staff will contact you via email with a formal quote and a copy of our terms and conditions for you to sign. Once complete, the image(s) will be sent to you via email or arrangements can be made for their retrieval via FTP or web.

COPYRIGHT PROTECTION AND UNAUTHORIZED USE:

Digital delivery of images makes control of use much more difficult than the old system of providing a physical transparency or print, and it allows far more people to have custody of an the same image at the same time. Even so, once an image is delivered to a client for consideration, it is the client's responsibility — spelled out in the delivery memo — to safeguard it.

With a very few exceptions, every image on the site is protected by US and International copyright law. Unauthorized, unlicensed uses are sadly quite common — and very expensive infringements of the photographer's or copyright-holder's intellectual property rights. Copyright protection exists from the moment the film is exposed and applies to any format, and every medium, including the preview images displayed on this site.

While it is now very easy to copy these images from the site or from books or magazine articles in which they may appear, it is extremely dangerous. When the image has been protected by formal submission to the Library of Congress Copyright Office, as nearly all the ones on this site have been, statutory damages and attorney's fees can be awarded — well over $100,000 per infringement. Military Stock Photography vigorously protects the intellectual property rights of its photographers. Documented unauthorized use will result in a demand for the normal fee for the use ... TIMES TEN.

We caught a small company blatantly using some of our images on T-shirts recently and it cost them $10,000; they were happy to pay it after they discovered it could have been much, much more. But we'd much rather just bill you the normal fee the first time.
